Iowa linebacker had a game high 15 tackles in Cy-Hawk win over rival Iowa State.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Sep. 16, 2026 — The Lott IMPACT Trophy presented by Allied Universal® announced today Cam Buffington, a linebacker from University of Iowa, has been named Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2026 college football season.

Buffington’s 15 tackles, nine solo, were a game high in the Hawkeyes 16-13 win over rival Iowa State. In the game the Cyclones were held to 225 yards of total offense. 

The Winfield, Iowa native currently leads the Big Ten in solo tackles. Buffington returns to Iowa after an All-Big Ten Academic team selection and is currently a member of the team’s Player Council.

Player of the Week winners are determined by an internal vote of former players, coaches and Lott IMPACT Trophy board members, in conjunction with a fan vote on social media.

The winner of the 2026 Lott IMPACT Trophy presented by Allied Universal will be announced on December 9, in Newport Beach, Calif.

  • John Henry Daley, Michigan, SR, DE- Had three tackles for a loss, including a sack, among eight total tackles in Wolverines 17-10 victory over Oklahoma 

  • Colin Simmons, Texas, JR, Edge- Had two tackles for a loss, including a sack in the Longhorns 24-23 victory over #1 Ohio State

  • Devan Thompkins, Alabama, SR, DL- Forced a fumble to go with two sacks, among six total tackles in Crimson Tide’s 45-17 win at Kentucky
