Maybe it’s the discipline – or lack of it. But why don’t more teams adopt Army’s triple-option offense? With lesser talent (at least in the eyes of the recruiters), the Cadets came agonizingly close to defeating highly ranked Oklahoma a year ago and highly ranked Michigan this year. Both losses were on the road and both were in overtime. Can’t anyone else use that scheme?
By the way, Army’s defense, which held Michigan in check most of the day, is led by Lott IMPACT Trophy candidate Cole Christiansen, a two-time team captain on the Honor Council at the academy who led the Black Knights with a career best 12 tackles in the Michigan game…
If Army could have held on to beat Michigan, Jim Harbaugh would be looking more and more like Rick Neuheisel at UCLA or Scott Frost at Nebraska. All were standout quarterbacks at their schools, successful coaches elsewhere and returned to dear ol’ alma mater only to go kerplunk…
Alabama losing all-world linebacker Dylan Moses for the season would cripple most teams, but this is ‘Bama – deep and talented. Still…
Moses was a top candidate for the Lott Trophy, too…
Two other Lott IMPACT Trophy candidates are tied for the NCAA lead in solo tackles – Evan Weaver (Cal) and David Woodward (Utah State) both have 20 in the first two games of the season…
Former USC star Devon Kennard, a Lott finalist in 2003 now playing for the Detroit Lions, had the most sacks (3) in the NFL on the opening weekend…
In order to be a sideline reporter on TV you must know football, right. Or look like a Playboy model, right?
Try to find a magazine with just plain, you know rosters, schedules and stats, football and you can’t. It’s all about fantasy football. If you don’t play, you might as well be reading about lacrosse…
Sorry to hear of the passing of Al Carmichael, a USC standout running back who once returned a kickoff 106 yards for an NFL record while playing for the Green Bay Packers. Al was 90…
The highly touted Chip Kelly is now 3-11 at UCLA and the Bruins face Oklahoma this Saturday at the Rose Bowl. Boomer Sooner indeed!!!
Stanford Coach David Shaw has already admitted he expected red-shirt sophomore Paulson Adebo, a shutdown corner back, will declare for the NFL draft this year. Adebo, on the Lott Trophy Watch List, will be able to negotiate a contract in two languages – he speaks French…
USC Athletic Director Lynn Swann resigned Monday after three years on the job. UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero is in his 17th season in Westwood. USC football is 2-0, UCLA 0-2! USC’s last three athletic directors were offensive stars at the school – Mike Garrett, Pat Haden and Swann. Maybe they should try a defensive player next!!!
