Lott IMPACT® Trophy – 2023 Winner Michigan’s Junior Colson

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (Dec. 10) – Michigan’s Junior Colson has been named the winner of the 20th Annual Lott IMPACT® Trophy. Colson led the Wolverines with 71 tackles, 26 more than the next closest player, to go with a pair of tackles for a loss and as many quarterback hurries.

The announcement came Sunday night at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, CA, at the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Annual Award Show from Ronnie Lott.

The award goes to the defensive player who has made the biggest IMPACT® on his team. IMPACT® stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

The defensive leader of the nation’s best defense, Junior Colson led the Wolverines to a perfect regular season in Ann Arbor and the number one seed in the College Football Playoff. Michigan will face Alabama on January 1st in the Rose Bowl Game.

Colson is the third Lott IMPACT® Trophy winner from Michigan, joining Jabril Peppers (2016) and Aidan Hutchinson (2021). In 2021, Charles Woodson was also presented with an honorary Lott IMPACT® Trophy.

The keynote address came from college football Hall of Famer Brent Jones, a three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro tight end. Joel Klatt from Fox Sports was the emcee.

The Pacific Club IMPACT® Foundation will present a $25,000 check to the general scholarship fund at Michigan in recognition of Colson’s achievement. Runners up were Jonah Elliss from Utah, Laiatu Latu of UCLA, and Alabama’s Dallas Turner. Each of those schools will receive $5,000 for their school’s scholarship fund.

Lott IMPACT® Trophy – Has Named Four Finalists for 2023

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – The Pacific Club IMPACT® Foundation has named Junior Colson (Michigan), Jonah Elliss (Utah) and Laiatu Latu (UCLA), and Dallas Turner (Alabama) as finalists for the 2023 Lott IMPACT® Trophy.

The Lott IMPACT® Trophy, now in its 20th year, goes to the student-athlete who best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT® on and off the field. IMPACT® is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Finalists will attend the annual Lott IMPACT® Trophy award show, December 10, 2023, in Newport Beach, California. Joel Klatt from Fox Sports will emcee the event.

The university of the winner will receive $25,000 for its general scholarship fund while three runner-ups will receive $5,000 for each of their schools.

Media attending the event are to arrive at 4:30pm for red carpet interviews with the four finalists and special guests.

Player of the Week – UCLA’s Laiatu Latu

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – UCLA defensive end Laiatu Latu is the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Player of the Week for week 12 of the 2023 college football season. Latu had two sacks, among 7 tackles (5 solo) in the Bruins 38-20 win at USC.

Latu is a senior who began his collegiate career at Washington where it was believed he suffered a career ending injury. He since transferred to UCLA and this year leads the nation in tackles for a loss and has the most sacks of any power 5 conference player.

Additionally, Latu is a finalist for the Lott IMPACT® Trophy, which will be presented on December 10th at The Pacific Club.

The Lott IMPACT® Trophy player of the week is determined in part by a panel of Lott Trophy board members, former players and coaches, as well as members of the media. That panel represents sixty percent of votes, while an online fan vote is used to determine the other forty percent.

The Lott IMPACT® Trophy is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Player of the Week – UCF’s Demari Henderson

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – UCF defensive back Demari Henderson is the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Player of the Week for week 11 of the 2023 college football season. Henderson had two interceptions with a pass broken up, in addition to four tackles (two solo) in the Knights 45-3 win over #17 Oklahoma State on Saturday

Henderson is a sophomore from Sanford, Florida. He’s played just seven games on the season, but in addition to his pair of interceptions in week 11, he has forced three fumbles and recovered two this year. A dynamic athlete, Henderson played offense, defense and returned kicks in high school, along with playing basketball. UCF is 5-5 this season, their first in the Big 12.

DAYLAN CARNELL, DB, Missouri, So. – Game sealing interception for a touchdown with a pass broken up and three tackles (all solo) in 36-7 win over #14 Tennessee.

HAROLD PERKINS JR, LB, LSU, So.- Forced a fumble to go with eight tackles (six solo), including a sack, and a QB hurry in Tigers 52-35 win over Florida.

DEVIN NEAL, DB, Louisville, Jr. – Game high 11 tackles (8 solo) with an interception and a pass broken up in Cardinals 31-24 win over Virginia.

Lott IMPACT® Trophy – Has Named Nine Semifinalists for 2023

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – The Pacific Club IMPACT® Foundation has named nine semifinalists for the 2023 Lott IMPACT® Trophy.

Finalists will be invited to attend the annual Lott IMPACT® Trophy award show, December 10, 2023, in Newport Beach, California. Joel Klatt from Fox Sports will emcee the event.

The university of the winner will receive $25,000 for its general scholarship fund while the other finalists will receive $5,000 for each of their schools.

The 2023 Lott IMPACT® Trophy semifinalists include four defensive linemen, two linebackers, and three defensive backs from the ACC, Big Ten, SEC, and Pac 12 conferences.

Player of the Week – Arizona’s Jacob Manu

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Arizona linebacker Jacob Manu is the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Manu had a game high 12 tackles, including a sack, in the Wildcats 27-10 win over #19 UCLA.

Arizona has now defeated a ranked team in three straight weeks for the first time in school history and are the first Pac 12 team to do so since Stanford in 2015.

Manu is a sophomore from Santa Ana, CA, where he was a three-star recruit who declined Ivy League offers to play at Arizona. Since arriving at Arizona, Manu has been a mainstay on the field. Manu has been a starter from early in his freshman season and is currently the Wildcats leading tackler.

The Lott IMPACT® Trophy player of the week is determined in part by a panel of Lott Trophy board members, former players, and coaches, as well as members of the media. That panel represents sixty percent of votes, while an online fan vote is used to determine the other forty percent.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell is the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Player of the Week for week 8 of the 2023 college football season. Campbell recovered a fumble, to go with 10 tackles, six solo, one for a loss, in the Crimson Tides 34-20 win over #17 Tennessee.

Campbell is a sophomore from Erial, N.J., and attended IMG Academy where he was considered the top edge rusher in his recruiting class. On the season, Campbell has 39 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, and two QB hurries.

Player of the Week – Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts is the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week for week 7 of the 2023 college football season. Watts had two interceptions, returned a fumble for a touchdown, and forced a fumble, to go with 7 tackles, 6 solo, as the Fighting Irish beat #10 USC 48-20.

A junior from Omaha, Nebraska, Watts was also named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and Bronco Nagurski National Player of the Week for his performance against the Trojans.

On the season, Watts leads the Fighting Irish in interceptions on the season with four, to go with as many pass breakups.

Player of the Week – Louisville’s Devin Neal

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Louisville defensive back Devin Neal is the Lott IMPACT® Trophy Player of the Week for week 6 of the 2023 college football season, after he had two interceptions, broke up pass and made eight tackles in the Cardinals 33-20 win over then #10 Notre Dame.

A junior from Lexington, KY, Neal began his collegiate career at Baylor, where he played three seasons. On the year, Neal now had three interceptions, a fumble recovery and four passes broken up.

CALEN BULLOCK, S, USC, Jr. – Broke up a pass on a two-point conversion attempt in double overtime, to go with six tackles, as the Trojans topped Arizona 43-41.
