NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Utah State Junior Linebacker David Woodward has been named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.
Woodward, 6-2, 235 from Olympia, WA., had a team high 14 tackles and forced two fumbles, recovering one for a touchdown that sealed a 34-24 victory over Colorado State.
The game was played in the rain on Merlin Olsen Field in Logan, Utah. “As a defense we love the weather, we love the rain and playing in different elements,” Woodward said. “It’s fun. I love playing in the rain because I’m from Washington and that’s what I’m used to. When adversity comes, we all just accept it, and love fighting through it.”
For the season, Woodward has 55 tackles, four forced fumbles, a sack and 3.5 tackles for losses.
Utah State will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Woodward’s performance.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation sponsors the Lott IMPACT Trophy and has donated more than $1.5 million to universities and charities throughout the country.

Kenneth Murray, LB, Sr., Oklahoma: Led Sooners with 9 tackles and added a sack in win over Texas Tech, 55-16.
Chris Orr, LB, Sr., Wisconsin: Had 2 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, 9 total tackles and a forced fumble in win over Northwestern, 24-15.
Colin Schooler, LB, Jr., Arizona: Led team with 13 tackles (10 solo), 2 tackles for losses, one pass defended in win over UCLA, 20-17.
Isaiah Simmons, LB, Sr., Clemson: Led team with 10 tackles, 2.5 for losses, had a pass defended, and 1 sack in win over North Carolina, 21-20.
Evan Weaver, LB, Sr., Cal: Led team with 15 tackles, 1.5 for loss in loss to Arizona State, 24-17.
