NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Two of the top linebackers in the country have been named the co-winners of the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.
Evan Weaver of Cal and Joe Bachie of Michigan State turned in terrific performances on Saturday to share the award.
Weaver had a seminal game in Cal’s road win against Ole Miss, 28-20. It was the first Pac-12 win at an SEC stadium since 2010.
The senior from Spokane, WA., had 22 tackles (11 were solo stops) and two quarterback hurries in the game that moved Cal to 4-0. He also made the biggest play of the game, stopping the Rebel quarterback on the one-yard line on the final play of the game.
Weaver leads the country in total tackles with 63, 16 more than any other Division I defender.
Bachie recorded 14 tackles (13 solo), two for losses, one sack, two passes defended, a quarterback hurry and an interception in a 31-10 win over Northwestern.
He is on the leadership council at Michigan State and is a team captain. The Spartans are 3-1.
Weaver was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and Bachie was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Cal and Michigan State will each receive $1,000 for their general scholarship funds in recognition of their players performances.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation sponsors the Lott IMPACT Trophy and has donated more than $1.5 million to universities and charities throughout the country.

Myles Bryant, DB, Washington, Jr.: Led team with 9 tackles in win over BYU, 45-19.
Cole Christiansen. LB, Army, Sr.: Led Black Knights with 11 tackles n win over Morgan State, 52-21.
Chris Orr, LB, Wisconsin, Sr.: Recovered fumble late in the game to secure win over Michigan, 35-14. Had two passes defended and two quarterback hurries.
Shaquille Quarterman, LB, Miami, Sr.: Had team high 14 tackles, 2 for losses and a quarterback hurry in win over Central Michigan, 17-12.
David Woodward, LB, Utah State, Sr.: Had 13 tackles to lead team to 23-17 win over San Diego State.
