ABOUT THE WK 1 LOTT IMPACT TROPHY PLAYER OF THE WEEK CANDIDATES
Henry Coley (Virginia, LB): Had two sacks to go with a team high 14 tackles as the Cavaliers held UCLA’s offense to just one touchdown.
A.J. Johnson (Tennessee, LB): Forced a fumble that led to a touchdown, intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards, broke up one pass, had a quarterback hurry and 9 total tackles in a win over Utah State, 38-7.
Karl Joseph (West Virginia, S): Had 18 tackles, most in the country during the first week of the season in a loss to Alabama.
Eric Kendricks (UCLA, LB): Led the Bruins with 16 tackles, forced a fumble and scored a touchdown on a 37-yard interception return in the Bruins’ 28-20 win over Virginia.
Cameron Lynch (Syracuse, LB): Recorded 12 solo tackles (15 total) with one sack, one quarterback hurry and one pass defended in a 27-26 win over Villanova.
Danny Shelton (Washington, DL): Led the Huskies with 12 tackles. Shelton also had 2 sacks and 3 tackles for losses in a win over Hawaii, 17-16.
Leonard Williams (USC, DL): Broke up two passes, had an interception and recorded 7 tackles in a win over Fresno State, 52-13.
