USC Linebacker Cameron Smith Named Lott IMPACT Player of the Week

Wk4-POTW17-CameronSmith-1024x360NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. – USC Linebacker Cameron Smith has been named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.

Smith, a 6-2, 245-pound junior from Roseville, Ca. led the Trojans with 12 tackles, had a fumble recovery, a quarterback hurry and 1.5 tackles for loss in a 30-20 win over Cal that kept USC undefeated at 4-0.

USC will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Smith’s performance.

The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation sponsors the Lott IMPACT Trophy and has donated more than $1.4 million to universities and charities throughout the country.

Smith, a three-year starter, was the winner of the USC Trojan Way Leadership Award last season.

Other nominees for the Lott IMPACT Trophy in Week Four:
Marcus Allen, S, Penn State: Forced a fumble, had two tackles for losses, including one sack and five total tackles in win over Iowa, 21-19.

Quin Blanding, S, Virginia: Had a team high 10 tackles with one tackle for loss in win over Boise State, 42-23.

Bryon Fields, CB, Duke: Had a 61-yard interception return for a touchdown (in the fourth quarter) along with four tackles and one pass broken up in win over North Carolina, 27-17.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama: Broke up two passes, had two quarterback hurries and two tackles as Crimson Tide defense held Vanderbilt to three first downs in 59-0 win.

Josey Jewell, LB, Iowa: Recorded game high 16 tackles, including three tackles for losses, a fumble recovery and an interception return for 33 yards in loss to Penn State, 21-19.

Hercules Mata’afa, DE, Washington State: Had 2.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries in win over Nevada, 45-7.

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, LB, Oklahoma: Forced a fumble, had a sack and six total tackles in win over Baylor, 49-41.

Harrison Phillips, DL, Stanford: Forced a fumble, had a sack and three totals in win over UCLA, 58-34.

Drue Tranquill, S, Notre Dame: Had six tackles, one sack and one pass broken up in win over Michigan State, 38-18.

About the Lott IMPACT Trophy
Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and a distinguished group of former college football head coaches. To date, the Foundation has donated more than $1.4 million to various charities throughout the country. The 14th annual Lott Trophy dinner will be held Dec. 10th at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California.
