Stanford’s Blake Martinez Named Lott IMPACT Player Of The Week

NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. – Stanford Linebacker Blake Martinez has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week.

The 6-2, 245-pound senior from Tucson led the Cardinal with 12 tackles in their big win over Notre Dame, 38-36, Saturday night. Martinez has 121 tackles on the season, which leads the team by 72 tackles over the next player.

In recognition of Martinez’ performance, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, will make a $1,000 donation to the general scholarship fund at Stanford.

A Lott IMPACT Trophy quarter-finalist this year, he has also been on the watch list for the Butkus, Nagurski, Bednarik and Lombardi trophies. He was a mid-season All-American selection.

Martinez, a science and engineering major, has been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention list in the past.

Shilique Calhoun, DE, Sr., Michigan State – Had two quarterback hurries and broke up one pass in win over Penn State, 55-16.

Bronson Kaufusi, LB, Sr., BYU – Blocked two field goal attempts and had a sack for a 15-yard loss plus one quarterback hurry in win over Utah State, 51-28.

Jordan Lomax, S, Sr., Iowa – Led undefeated Hawkeyes with 11 tackles in win over Nebraska, 28-20.

Tyler Matakevich, LB, Sr., Temple – Led Owls with 11 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss while team held Connecticut to 138 total yards.

Joshua Perry, LB, Sr., Ohio State – Led team with 10 tackles (1/2 tackle for loss) and broke up one pass in win over Michigan, 42-13.

Jaylon Smith, LB, Jr., Notre Dame – Led team with 15 tackles in loss to Stanford, 38-36.

Eric Striker, LB, Jr., Oklahoma – Had 3 quarterback hurries, broke up 2 passes and had 3 tackles in win over Oklahoma State, 58-23.
