Penn State LB Jason Cabinda Named Lott IMPACT Player of the Week For Second Time This Season


NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. –
Penn State Linebacker Jason Cabinda has been named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Cabinda is a 6-1, 234-pound senior from Flemington, New Jersey.  In the Nittany Lions’ 42-13 win over Michigan, Cabinda led the team with 13 tackles, had a sack and forced a fumble as the Penn State defense held Michigan to just 103 rushing yards and an average of 2.5 yards per rush.

Penn State is 7-0 and ranked No. 2 in the country.

It was the eighth double digit tackle performance for Cabinda, a team captain.  An economics major, he was recognized in high school for his academic and athletic success.

Penn State will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Cabinda’s performance.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation sponsors the Lott IMPACT Trophy and has donated more than $1.4 million to universities and charities throughout the country.

Lott IMPACT Trophy candidates will be featured on “Inside College Football” on CBS Sports Network, which airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (Eastern). The show is hosted by Adam Zucker with analysts Randy Cross, Brian Jones, Rick Neuheisel and Aaron Taylor.

CBS Sports Network will air the annual Lott IMPACT Trophy banquet live on Dec. 10 from the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
Other nominees for the Lott IMPACT Trophy in Week Eight:

Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech: Had 8 tackles, one for a loss in win over North Carolina, 59-7.

Malik Jefferson, LB/DE, Texas: Had a team high 14 tackles and added a quarterback hurry in overtime loss to Oklahoma State, 13-10.

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, LB, Oklahoma: Had 5 solo tackles with 2 tackles for losses in win over Kansas State, 42-35.

Drue Tranquill, LB, Notre Dame: Contributed 7 tackles, one for a loss, recovered a fumble and had a quarterback hurry in 49-14 win over USC.

Kenny Young, LB, UCLA: Led Bruins with 12 tackles with one tackle for a loss in win over Oregon, 31-14.
