Notre Dame’s Jaylon Smith Named Lott IMPACT Player of The Week For Second Time This Season

Notre Dame Linebacker Jaylon Smith has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week for the second time this season. The 6-2, 235-pound sophomore had 14 tackles, including 2.5 for losses and one sack in a 17-14 win over Stanford.

The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation will make a donation of $1,000 to the general scholarship fund at Notre Dame to recognize Smith’s performance. Smith was the recipient of the high school Butkus Award in 2012, the same year Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o won the Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Other Nominees This Week:

Vic Beasley (Clemson, DE): Returned a fumble 16 yards for a touchdown, had a sack and a quarterback hurry in shutout of North Carolina State, 41-10.

Shilique Calhoun (Michigan State, DE): Returned a fumble 38 yards, had 3 quarterback hurries, a sack and four tackles in win over Nebraska, 27-22.

Bud Dupree (Kentucky, DE): Intercepted a pass and returned it for a six-yard touchdown for the winning score in 45-38 win over South Carolina. Also contributed five tackles.

Bryce Hager (Baylor, LB): Team high 8 tackles (1.5 for losses) and 2 quarterback hurries in win over Texas, 28-7.

Anthony Harris (Virginia, S): Led all players with 13 tackles and had a sack in 24-19 win over Pitt.

A.J. Johnson (Tennessee, LB): Had game high 13 tackles (one for a loss) in loss to Florida, 10-9.

Derron Smith (Fresno State, S): Led team with 8 tackles and had a fumble recovery in win over San Diego State, 24-13,

Jared Tevis (Arizona, S): Led Wildcats with 8 tackles in upset win over Oregon, 31-24.
