LOTT IMPACT TROPHY NAMES 19 QUARTER-FINALISTS

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. October 24,2016 – The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, today announced the quarter-finalists for the 13th annual award.

The 19 players represent the best college defensive players in the nation who make the biggest IMPACT on their team both on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. The winner of the 2016 Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced live on FOX Sports on Sunday, December 11th at 7pm PST.

Named after College and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy was founded in 2004. It is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career.

There are nine linebackers on the list of quarter-finalists; seven defensive backs and three defensive linemen. Both Alabama, the No. 1 team in the nation, and Wisconsin have two players each on the list. Videos highlighting players’ on-field performance and off-field character are available for viewing HERE. The video gallery includes select players from the initial “watch list” and quarter-finals. More videos will be added throughout the selection process.

Semi-finalists will be announced November 9 and four finalists will be announced November 30. The four finalists will attend the Lott IMPACT Trophy Awards Banquet December 11 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach where the winner will be announced by Ronnie Lott. Each of the schools of the finalists will receive $5,000 for their general scholarship fund while the school of the winner will receive $25,000.

Additionally, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation awards a weekly $1,000 general scholarship fund to the school of the player who is recognized as the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week. Announced on Tuesdays throughout the regular season, past winners include: Ben Boulware, Clemson (week 5); Laiu Moeakiola, Arizona State (week 4); Jabrill Peppers, Michigan (week 3); Calvin Munson, San Diego State (week 2); Jack Cichy, Wisconsin (week 1).
