IOWA’S JOSEY JEWELL NAMED LOTT IMPACT TROPHY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Josey Jewell Lott IMPACT Player of the Week
NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. – Iowa senior linebacker Josey Jewell has been named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.

Jewell, 6-2, 236 from Decorah, Iowa, led the Hawkeye defense in a convincing 24-3 win over Wyoming. Jewell led the team with 14 tackles, had 2.5 tackles for loss, including 2 sacks and broke up one pass.

Iowa will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Jewell’s performance.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation sponsors the Lott IMPACT Trophy and has donated more than $1.4 million to universities and charities throughout the country.

He was second in the Big Ten last season with 124 tackles and is a four-time member of the Iowa Leadership team. He is also the team captain.

The Defensive MVP of the team last season, Jewell was an academic all-district honoree in high school where he was a member of the National Honor Society.

He was also named the Bednarik Player of the Week, the Big Ten Player of the Week and the National Defensive Player of the Week.

Quin Blanding, S, Virginia: Led team with 12 tackles in win over William & Mary 28-10.

Koron Crump, LB, Arizona State: Had 2 sacks among his 6 tackles in win over New Mexico State, 37-31.

Bryon Fields, CB, Duke: Returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown in win over North Carolina Central, 60-7.

Courtney Love, LB, Kentucky: Recorded 9 tackles (team high) with a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss in win over Southern Mississippi, 24-17.

Hercules Mata’afa, DL, Washington State: Recorded 2 ½ tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hurry and 5 total tackles in win over Montana State, 31-0.

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, LB, Oklahoma: Had a sack, 2 tackles for losses and 4 tackles overall in win over UTEP, 56-7.

D.J. Reed, DB, Kansas State: Had a 62-yard punt returns for a touchdown, a 96-yard kickoff return, an interception and 7 tackles (with one for a loss) in win over Central Arkansas, 55-19.

Tre Williams, LB, Auburn: Tram high 10 tackles with 2 sacks and one quarterback hurry in win over Georgia Southern, 41-7.
