Finalist Watch: Iowa’s James Morris Leads Hawkeyes In Win Against Nebraska

In the third annual Hy-Vee Heroes Game, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 38-17. This was the Hawkeyes third straight against the Cornhuskers and improved Iowa’s overall record to 8-4 and tied them for second in the Legends Division of the Big Ten with a 5-3 conference record.
Iowa’s defense held Nebraska to 17 points, 89 net rushing yards and 288 yards total offense. The Huskers entered the game ranked 19th nationally in rushing yards per game (233.7). The Hawkeyes recorded two sacks, two interceptions and recovered one fumble, with two of the three turnovers leading directly to touchdowns.
Iowa’s Morris had 10 tackles (5 solo), a sack, a pass deflection, a QB hurry and an interception for the Hawkeyes. Currently Morris ranks sixth in career tackles for the Hawkeyes with 392. Morris was named the National Defensive Performer and National Linebacker of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. Both College Sports Madness and Athlon Sports named Morris their Big Ten Player of the Week.
Morris is a Finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. The Lott IMPACT Trophy is the only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of a player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Ronnie Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
