OFF THE FIELD

Cedric Reed is a junior defensive end for college football’s own Texas Longhorns. Reed, a Texas native, has experienced a highly decorative career both on and off the field. He is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (as of the Spring 2012). Reed’s academic prowess is also recognizable through his feat(s) as a three-time member of the A/B Honor Roll at Texas. His emphasis of academic integrity and polished commitment to higher education demonstrates his versatility as a student-athlete.

ON THE FIELD

Reed’s on-field resume is just as admirable as his work off the field. In 2013, Reed anchored Texas’ defense in the trenches on his way to leading the Big 12 in forced fumbles with (5). After starting all 13 games at defensive end, Reed became a 2013 AP first team All-Big 12 selection; eventually becoming a second-team choice by coaches and Athlon Sports magazine. While playing alongside fellow defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat, the two combined to become the only team tandem in the 2013 FBS with double-digit sacks each. Entering the 2014 season his 19 straight starts lead the defense and are second on the team. His efforts on the field have earned him a preseason first-team All-American selection by Phile Steele, second-team choice by Lindy’s, and third-team pick by Athlon and Sporting News. He has also been recognized by the Chuck Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award for his stellar on field performance.
