Boston College retires Luke Kuechly’s jersey

kuechly_bc_webLuke Kuechly made some unforgettable plays in three seasons playing middle linebacker at Boston College, and today he will enjoy a special moment.

The most decorated defensive player in program history will have his jersey retired during a halftime ceremony of the Eagles game with Syracuse at Alumni Stadium.

Kuechly will join Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie, Outland Trophy winner Mike Ruth, Art Donovan, Bill Flynn, Mike Holovak, Charles O’Rourke, Tony Thurman and Louis Urban on the wall of honor at Alumni Stadium. Flutie, Ruth and Thurman will join the Carolina Panthers linebacker at midfield for a presentation.

“This weekend is special,” said Kuechly during a press conference yesterday at the Yawkey Center. “When I was at school we always had summer workouts in the stadium. The things that always stayed the same at the stadium were the Mike Ruth and Doug Flutie jerseys up there. You always thought one day maybe you could be up there on the wall with those guys. I’m very honored to have the opportunity to be up there with those guys.”
