Baylor’s Shawn Oakman: The Gigantic Man Behind the Meme

Shawn Oakman is what college football is all about.  He has overcome insurmountable odds to be where he is today and is more than appreciative of the opportunities that have been given to him.  Going into his senior season he wants nothing more than to just leave it all on the field for the people that gave him a chance.
In what may have been the best illustration of his passion for his school, coaches and teammates, Oakman approached (Baylor defensive coordinator Phil) Bennett a few days before the Cotton Bowl and informed him he’d be returning for his senior season.
“It just shows you how unselfish he’s become,” (head coach Art) Briles says. “He sees the bigger picture. He’s as good of a leader as we’ve ever had here.”
Getting to 12-0—and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff—won’t happen without an All-American season from Oakman, who Briles says is “the face of Baylor’s program.”
Find out more about his incredible journey to get to where he is today, what symbolic meaning his number has for him, and why there truly is a lot more to the man behind the meme:
