Anthony Barr Foundation selects first scholarship recipient
- Updated: September 19, 2016
Raise the Barr – Powered by the Anthony Barr Foundation – was founded to provide financial support to single mothers wishing to further their education. Their goal is to create a society where single mothers can pursue higher education, likely changing the trajectory of their lives and the lives of their children.
The first scholarship recipient is Natasha Redeagle of Redby, Minn. Mom and her three kids were Barr’s guests of honor at the home opener as the Vikings hosted the Packers in the first official NFL game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
They’re giving Natasha $8,000 worth of aid, which includes help with tuition and child care.
Lori Barr, Anthony’s mother, has been instrumental in taking the first steps with the organization, and picking a worthy first recipient.
“I was excited and nervous [to offer first scholarship],” Lori Barr said. “To be able to share that with somebody and just walk through that journey … It was like we’ve kind of come full circle.”
“It was like, ‘wow, look where we are and look what we get to do.’ To share this experience, it was very emotional. [Natasha] was choked up,” Lori Barr said, “I was choked up. Anthony was very excited. She might have shed a tear or two.”
