NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. – Alabama Defensive Lineman Jonathan Allen has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week.
The 6-3, 294-pound senior from Leesburg, Virginia had four quarterback hurries, a sack, six tackles and a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Alabama’s 33-14 win over Texas A&M.
In recognition of Allen’s performance, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, will make a $1,000 donation to the general scholarship fund at Alabama.
The fumble return for a touchdown was his second of the season, having taken one back 75 yards against Ole Miss. For the season, Allen has 35 tackles, 6 sacks and 10 quarterback hurries.
“That was the real turning point in the game. That changed the momentum of this game,” said Alabama Coach Nick Saban, about Allen’s fumble return for a score.
“You know, you don’t think about it,” said Allen. “It’s all reaction. So we just train ourselves to pick up all loose balls in practice, and it’s good to see happen in the game.”
