2 Watch List Players Had Good Character Instilled In Them On Same Youth Team

jourdan-lewis-desmond-kingwebThe Westside Cubs youth football program has been turning out college and professional football players from Detroit for over 50 years.  This year is no different, as 2 of college football’s top defensive stars, and Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List players, come from the program.  Desmond King led the Iowa Hawkeyes to the winningest season in team history last year with 8 interceptions while Jourdan Lewes led the nation in passes broken up for the Michigan Wolverines with 15.  But what separates the Cubs from most other powerhouse youth football program is their motto, instilled in these inner city kids from a young age: “God, Books, and Ball,” and it’s in that order.  The program has been run for the last 24 years by William Tandy, and no one is happier than he is to see the success of these young athletes.  “Truthfully, I’m like a father seeing his son graduate from college. I have so much pride in seeing their dreams come true. It’s a commitment that a lot of folks don’t understand.”
